There is confusion in the Enugu State Chapter of the  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the party’s leaders have divided into divergent interest groups especially with regard to the 2023 presidential election.

The leader of the party and Governor of Enugu State, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the founder of the Ebeano Political Dynasty where Ugwuanyi also belongs, Sen. Chimaroke Nnamani, are sharply divided in their opinion of where the party should stand during the presidential election, by

supporting different presidential candidates.

This has therefore thrown their followers, including the state PDP governorship candidate, Peter Mbah, and his group, into greater confusion.

While Ugwuanyi, at the national level, belongs to the PDP camp of the Rivers State Governor, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, which has distanced itself from the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Sen. Chimaroke Nnamani, though PDP Senatorial Candidate for Enugu-East Senatorial zone, has stated openly that he is supporting the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The former Enugu State Governor, Chimaroke Nnamani, had severally attacked supporters of the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, and in a series of tweets on his Twitter handle, described Tinubu as “the hardest working politico of this generation”.

Nnamani condemned the attack on the alleged ill-health of the former Lagos Governor, saying that those mocking Asiwaju may also have their shares later.

Probably, as a reward for his open political support to Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has included Nnamani as member of its Presidential Campaign Council.

In a release on Friday, signed by the Secretary of its Presidential Campaign Council for the 2023 election, James Faleke, Chimaroke Nnamani was listed as number 350 in the 442-member Campaign Council, which by implication, means that the PDP Senator is now with the APC.

Governor Ugwuanyi, on his part, appears currently to be in a dilemma. Ugwuanyi is contesting a Senatorial Seat on the platform of the PDP. While not being as vocal as his other colleagues like Wike, Ortom, Makinde, and even Ikpeazu, Ugwuanyi, a few days ago, at the Government House, Enugu, quietly received in audience, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, who he had previously snubbed in March this year during the run up to the PDP Presidential primary.

The interpretation of this new turn of event, is that since Ugwuanyi, whose name already appears in the list of PDP Presidential Campaign Council, but with his Wike Group backing out of Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign, is now rooting to perch on the back of the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, to realize his Senatorial ambition.

In the same vein, Enugu PDP Governorship Candidate, Peter Mbah and other political office seekers in the state, have been using the Obidient Movement to canvass for support, by telling the people to vote for Peter Obi as President, but vote for PDP candidates at the state level.

Equally, currently trending in the social media are the photographs of the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, and that of the Governorship Candidate of PDP in Enugu State, Mr. Peter Mbah, together with their respective party logos in a campaign poster, as if two of them belong to the same political party.

Many People see this as deceit and mischievous, and wonder if Enugu PDP will be proud and bold enough to produce political campaign banner that would have the photographs of its Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and its Governorship Candidate in the state, Peter Mbah.

Enugu PDP knows that they cannot win election in the state, unless they engage in deceit and political chicanery. But their plan to confuse the electorate by riding on the back of the high flying Labour Party, and its Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, to gain political power will never work.

In any case, Peter Obi knows that he will not be working hard to be in Abuja as President, without equally working hard to have his own men, those who are going to help him realize his programme, at both the National Assembly, and in all the states.

That is why those who are trying to deceitfully use his name and his political party to grab political power are labouring in vain. They are like thieves, who come through the back door.
