*Wants to be human rights lawyer, but dream hangs in a balance due to bad governance

Sixteen-year-old Somtochukwu Ekwochi in the May/June 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) , according to the results recently released by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

Simply known as Somto, she recorded A1 in all the nine subjects she offered during the examination.

A member of the 2022 graduating class of Deeper Life High School, Lagos Campus, Somto also posted another remarkable score of 324 in the Universities Tertiary Matriculations Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB).

Somto, hails from Umueze Awkunanaw in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, equally bagged  the 2022 nationwide overall-best graduating student from the 22 campuses  of the school.

She was also the first Arts and Humanities student to  record nine A1s straight in SSCE in the school’s 12-year history.

During the seventh valedictory service of the school held at its Mowe campus on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Somto also emerged the overall-best candidate in six of her nine subjects and garnered several mouth-watering cash and other prizes.

Somto said she wants to be a civil rights lawyer and will be proceeding to study Law in university this September if only the Federal Government would do the needful and resolve the now vexatious ASUU strike, except any of the private universities accepts to offer her scholarship or she gains scholarship to study abroad.

If none of the two other options to studying in a public university avails itself for her, the bright dreams she has will die a natural death in a country where political leaders have proved to be highly insensitive and wicked.
