Nigerians received the shocking news of how the London Metropolitan Police arrested the former Deputy President of the Senate, Prof. Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice.

They were accused of a plot to harvest the kidney of a 15-year-old boy, said to be from Ebonyi State (simply called David).

Ekweremadu and his wife have since been arraigned in a British Crown Court, according to a repor monitored on Arise TV, according its correspondent in the UK. They were denied bail.

According to information, the prosecution alleged that the lawmaker and his wife brought a 15-year-old boy under the false pretext of “giving him a good life in the UK”, only to organise the harvest of the lad’s kidney, which was thwarted.

Letter llegedly attributed to Sen. Ekweremadu and addressed to the Visa Section, British High Commission, Abuja, dated December 28, 2021, stated that the boy was needed for kidney donation for his daughter, who is experiencing kidney complications.

The prosecution, the potential beneficiary of the kidney was Ekweremadu’s daughter, an 18-year-old, has been undergoing dialysis and is critically in need of a kidney.

Ekweremadu and his wife, according to the report, were alleged to have provided false information about the donor’s age so as to remove the liability of consent, which in most countries, is 18 years.

Not much is known about the boy, and the prosecution did not also reveal whether the parents of the boy were part of the plan and consented to the plot to remove his kidney.

It was equally gathered that UK is to collaborate with the Nigerian government to establish a case of trafficking,  being one of the charges levelled against Ekweremadu.

Sky News had reported the arrest of the Ekweremadus earier Thirsday.

The news medium had reported: “Two people have been charged with conspiring to bring a child to the UK in order to harvest organs, the Metropolitan Police said.

“Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55, and Ike Ekweremadu, 60, have been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court today.

“Charges were brought against the pair, who are from Nigeria, following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime team.

“The child has now been safeguarded.

“The investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.”

The little boy who is said to be from Ebonyi State, and with the first name, David (other surname and middle name undisclosed, being a minor), was to have had his kidney harvested in favour of Ekweremadu’s daughter (name withheld), at the Royal Free Hospital, London.

The arrest, analysts say, has disclosed why Nigerian leaders have left Nigerian hospitals in decrepit condition, refusing to refurbush hospitals, but preferring to travel abroad with members of their family for medication.

Our respondents referred us to how several of the Nigerian leaders who were very sick and appeared wobbly suddenly get transformed to youths after spending sometime in London hospitals, describing such as “ungodly and inhuman”.

Alhaji Usman Ilyasu told our reporters: “You can now understand why our leaders don’t want to make our hospitals work. They don’t want to refurbish, rebuild our hospitals or build or attract foreign investors to build hospitals here.

“We can now appreciate why the level of kidnapping is on the rise in the country, far above any other country in the world”.

John Oduenyi bemoaned the wicked acts of Nigerian rulers, attributing the London incident to why they have refused to let things work in the country, but thanked God for the exposure.

“Ruling us in a most wicked manner is not enough, it is to abduct our children under the guise of taking them abroad on scholarship only for them to get them disappeared after harvesting their organs.

“Can you imagine, taking the organ of a minor for another child? That is to say, the lives of our children do not matter”.

He called for a probe of the numerous hospital trips of Nigerian politicians and technocrats.

Mojisola Abegunrin who expressed shock over the news, attributed the matter to the invisibility of our political leaders.

According to her: “My worry is that our government will not do anything on this issue. They will sweep it aside because all of them are involved, just the same way they swept aside the prosecution of people who were sponsoring terrorism exposed by the UAE government. Evil thrives in this country, God forbid!,” she said.
