The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday, while condemning the leak of a video of former Anambra Governor Willie Obiano in its custody, said they have taken appropriate measures to dispute to errant operative.

Chief Obiano was arrested last Thursday at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA), Lagos en route to Houston, Texas, US, same day he handed over to Prof. Charles Soludo as his successor in Awka.

Shortly after his arrest, footage showing Obiano sitting, dressed in only a T-shirt and red boxer and sipping a bottle of water while in custody, went viral, attracting public odium over such ill treatment and indecent exposure.

A statement by the EFCC spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren,  condemned release of the video and announced that the EFCC operative who carried out the despicable act had been arrested and facing the wrat of law beginning with internal disciplinary procedures.

Uwujaren said the act of making public the video recording was completely at variance with the established Standard Operating Procedure of the commission.

“A discreet investigation ordered upon discovery of the leak has revealed the errant officer behind the odious act. He is currently being subjected to appropriate disciplinary action,” he said.

Although Obiano’s exact allegations have not yet been made public, it is believed that he is being accused of diverting Local Government allocations and inbolved in alleged purchase of properties locally and abroad.
