*Burn Divisional Police headquarters in Imo State and set detainees free

By Ekene Obi

The terror group, ‘Unknown Gunmen’ early Saturday morning struck at the country home of the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof. George Obiozor, at Awo-Omanma, Oru East Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo State, razing down his country home.

Sources confirmed that the gunmen arrived at the apex Igbo leader’s home in vehicles, throwing explosive devices at the house.

Luckily, according to sources, Prof. Obiozor was not at home when the  building was attacked.

According to sources: “The country home of Prof. George Obiozor was burnt.

“The CCTV cameras captured the attack. Thank God Prof. was not at home when they arrived.

“The gunmen did not torch adjourning buildings nor harass any of his kinsmen who have their houses beside his own.

“It is not clear why they attacked his house, but whatever that motivated those who carried out thos dastardly act is ill-conceived. Prof is a nice man who bears no grudges and who has been assisting several people, especially the less privileged and the youths.

“With what they did to him, bu these rascals youths who have become ill-adviaed and criminally-minded and I stand to be corrected, how do they expect Prof to continue to assist people? To ingrate?,” they queried.

Obiozor had yet to respond to an inquiry concerning the attack, but one of the leaders of apex Igbo socio-political body, who prefers anonymity, said that he had called Obiozor to commiserate with him on the incident.

He called on the police to fish out those who carried out this arson.

Recall that similar but unsuccessful incident was carried out at the family home of Chief Nnia Nwodo in Ukehe, Enugi State, while he was Ohanaeze President-General.

Aside Dr. Obiozor’ home, the Divisional Police headquarters at Umuguma, Owerri-West Local Government Area, Imo State,  was also set ablaze by similar or another band of gunmen.

It was disclosed by sources that the gunmen invaded the Police station at about 04:00 hours on Saturday morning.

They attacked police officers on duty and subsequently freed suspects in detention, after which they threw suspectee petrol bombs at the place, setting the Police station ablaze.

Residents of the community said the gunmen shot into the air during the attack, which made them run into bushes for safety, not knowing what was happening or who was responsible for that incident.

The Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mr. Mike Abattam, while confirming the report of the attacks, however debunked news making the round that some police officers were killed.

He said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Rabiu Hussaini, has activated all the Rapid Response Team and they are on the trail of perpetrators.

Ther is at yet no assurances that the whereabouts of the criminal elements have been traced not any communication established with them.

No group has yet claimed responsibility, but the South-East have in recent times witnessed sordid acts of criminality, including indiscriminate killing of innocent citizens and burning of peoples property.

On each occasion, while security blamed the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) of responsibility, the group, through their spokesman, Emma Powerful, have always denied every bit of such allegations, distancing the group from such crimes.

Neither the security agencies, nor the IPOB security arm, who also claim they were providing security in the South-East have been able to unravel what is happening in the zone.
