*As party unfolds 1,234 Presidential Campaign Council
The Presidential Candidate of the labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi has claimed that 15 million verified voters were already lending support to him ahead of the 2023 elections.
The Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, Dr. Doyin Okupe made the declaration on behalf of his principal at the public presentation of 1,234-member Presidential Campaign Council.
According to Okupe, verified records of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) showed that there are more new voters than old voters, and more than 60 per cent of the new voters have made up their mind to vote for Peter Obi.
“Therefore, the pool of these new voters with their power of tsunami would destroy the structures of the expired ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
“These are people who have exhibited generic love for Peter Obi, not people hired and paid to pretend to lend support to these expired political parties.
“The only thing they are asking INEC and the security agencies is to provide level playing field for the election. They are also asking the security agencies to prevent all forms of violence, because they are desirous to cast their franchise now, unlike before.
“They are tired of the miss-governance of the APC and the PDP since 1999 and they now want to ensure they retire those who have been punishing them in this country.
“These 15 million voters are by far more than the 12 million voters that put the President Muhammadu Buhari in office in 2015 and if you add the numerous disenchanted Nigerians who would not want to vote for either APC or PDP again, you can understand what I mean when we say the two parties are standing against a tsunami,” Okupe explained.
He said because of the capacity of Obi the Obi-dient movement has today rapidly evolved into the biggest voluntary political movement in Nigeria history.
He therefore assured Nigerians, that “as we commence the campaign for the 2023 elections, in earnest, our party and our candidates, will remain committed to honest, clean and issue-based engagements, with the Nigerian people, whose mandate we seek, in order to turn around the fortunes of this our great, but badly misgoverned country.”
The National Secretary, of the Party, Clement Ojukwu, who announced some leaders out of the 1,234,-member Campaign Council, stated that it would be chaired by AIG Muhammadu Zarewa (rtd).
Others are Clement Ojukwu, Secretary-General of the Council, Commrade Julius Abure the party chairman who doubles as the Chairman of the Advisory Council, while Dr. Okupe, would be the Director-General of the Campaign Council and Chief Oseluka Obaze, the General-Manager.
